To all of you moms and/or nannies out there. This one is for you!
I’m now keeping one of the sweetest little boys ever! However, he’s recently decided that he will only breastfeed… no bottles for this kid… not even when they’re filled with breast milk. His parents have tried everything they know to do. We’ve all researched online and nothing seems to work for him. I’ve tried a couple different bottles, different temps, different positions, etc. He gets here at 8am and leaves around 5:30p and eats 0-2 ounces the ENTIRE time! And the 2 ounces only happened when I dipped his pacifier (which he LOVES) in the milk and basically dripped it in for about 1 hour. In all of my years of nannying and through all 11 children I’ve been a full time nanny for, this is one I haven’t encountered.
He’s SO sweet and cute, but I just hate it for him. There may be nothing that works and we assume he’ll eat when he can’t stand not eating anymore. I hate it for him because I know his little belly is so hungry. And I hate it for his sweet mom, as she is the ONLY one who can feed him when she gets home from work and all throughout the night. She’s a trooper, but a tired trooper.
Anyone have this happen with their child? Any suggestions?
How old is he? Have you tried the Doc Brown’s bottles? It might be the type of bottle nipple that he doesn’t like . . .if he likes his paci, maybe you can find a bottle nipple that is shaped like it. Poor little thing. Makes me sad for him!
Hey beautiful! We’ve tried the same nipplas a paci, and Dad has tried. We’ve tried many differnt types of bottles, but not the Doc Brown. She’s mentioned trying them though so maybe it’ll work out for the little guy. We’re getting to the point where we figure if he gets hungry enough he’ll eat! I do ate it though.
How are you my dear?!
I talked to a friend of mine who said that she had an issue like that when her daughter was little. What she had to do was literally leave the house every night for a week or two nad leave hubby at home with the baby and a bottle . . . eventually they baby began to drink from a bottle from anyone and everyone. Perhaps that’s why your little guy won’t drink from a bottle, because he recognizes you’re a woman . . . perhaps the dad . . . or Mark . . . could give it a go?
Well obviously this did not happen with my child. He would eat anywhere, from any one, anyway…as long as he got to eat. But I have a couple suggestions… with Grant I would take some of his mom’s clothes and put them around him so he would smell her. Also if he likes his passie…they make a bottle the has a detachable nipple. It is basically like eating through a straw attached to a passie. I am not sure what it is called but I think they sell it at Baby’s R us.
Love you
